Did I need a recipe for scrambled eggs? Nope. Was I secretly willing ChatGPT to give me a recipe for scrambled eggs because even an omelette felt like too much work when I was getting hangry? Yep. See, I’ve still got power over the machine mwahaha!
I started by asking ChatGPT to give me 5 recipes that use eggs, bell peppers, and spinach. It came back with “Spinach and Bell Pepper Frittata,” “Bell Pepper and Spinach Omelette,” “Spinach, Bell Pepper, and Egg Muffins,” “Scrambled Eggs with Spinach and Bell Peppers,” and “Egg-Stuffed Bell Peppers.” Option #4 was the winner!
So I went to the refrigerator and grabbed my carton of eggs, my bag of spinach, and the bell pepper my mom gave me. I noticed that there was an avocado I meant to use in a recipe last week, and I obviously knew what I was going to do with it, but for the sake of science, I came back to ChatGPT:
It did give me a couple suggestions for how to use it at least:
I do feel like ChatGPT is getting to know my ways in the kitchen better. The meals keep getting simpler and faster, which for me is perfect. For readers of a meal planning and recipe blog, maybe not so much. I’ll try to find a happy medium next month with a bit more variety in ingredients.
One area where ChatGPT has not been keeping things simple is in its Midjourney prompts. I think I’m choosing too many “descriptive” and “creative” adjectives when I nudge it to give me prompts. Here was the original ChatGPT-created prompt and the Midjourney output:
These are not scrambled eggs. So then I asked ChatGPT to modify the prompt but make sure that the yolks and the whites are whisked together. This is what Midjourney gave me:
The juxtaposition of the top images with the one on the bottom right from the same prompt kills me:
Scrambled Eggs with Spinach, Bell Peppers, and Avocado
Ingredients
- 12 large eggs
- 1 medium bell pepper diced
- 3 cups fresh spinach roughly chopped
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 ripe avocados diced
- 1/2 tsp paprika or chili flakes
Instructions
- Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk until yolks and whites are fully combined. Season with salt and pepper.
- Heat the olive oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add the diced bell pepper and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until softened.
- Add the chopped spinach to the pan and continue to sauté until the spinach wilts down.
- Pour the whisked eggs over the veggies in the pan, let them cook for a bit without stirring.
- When the eggs start to set around the edges, start gently stirring and folding the eggs, until they are cooked to your liking.
- While the eggs are cooking, dice the avocado.
- Once the eggs are done, remove from heat and mix in the diced avocado. You can also put the avocado on top of the eggs after serving if you prefer.
